Individual Therapy - For "MOM" Primary Parent/Birthing Partner

Moms and birthing partners navigating preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, pregnancy loss, and the early stages of motherhood face unique mental health challenges as they manage physical, emotional, and life changes. Each stage offers distinct needs that therapy can help address with care and support.

Preconception: Therapy can offer a safe space to explore anxiety, fertility concerns, relationship dynamics, and mental preparation for the transition to motherhood. Addressing these areas early fosters resilience, self-care, and a sense of readiness for what’s ahead.

During Pregnancy: Support during this time may focus on managing mood fluctuations, fears about childbirth, body image concerns, relationship shifts, and preparing for the role of parenthood. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore these changes and reduce the stress that comes with them.

Postpartum: Whether with or without a baby, the postpartum period brings its own set of challenges. Even in the case of pregnancy loss, hormonal shifts continue to affect emotional well-being. Therapy is essential for processing the birth experience, addressing postpartum depression or anxiety, managing identity shifts, coping with sleep deprivation, and establishing a balanced support network. Moms benefit from strategies that nurture their mental health and guide them as they adjust to their new role.

Throughout these stages, therapy offers mothers the support they need to build emotional strength, reduce feelings of isolation, embrace self-compassion, and navigate the complexities of nurturing a growing family.

Therapy topics include but are not limited to:

  • Preconception Anxiety
  • Infertility
  • Pregnancy Loss
  • Expecting a Baby
  • Postpartum Adjustments
  • Hormonal Changes & Emotional Shifts
  • Sleep Deprivation
  • Identity Shifts
  • Role Adjustments
  • Feelings of Isolation
  • Pressure to Do It All
  • Strained Relationships & Communication
  • Body Image & Self-Esteem
  • Postpartum Depression
  • Postpartum Anxiety
  • Overwhelm
  • Balancing Work & Family Life
  • Parenting Young Children

At Evolving Tree Therapy, we’re here to support you through each phase, helping you build resilience and foster a sense of well-being as you navigate your journey.

Individual Therapy for the Non-Birthing Partner

The perinatal period presents unique challenges for non-birthing partners, challenges that are often overlooked. Supporting their partner through this transformative time can bring emotional and relational complexities that deserve attention. Therapy for non-birthing partners can help address a variety of concerns, including:

  • Emotional Support: Processing shifts in the relationship dynamic, managing feelings of helplessness, and navigating anxiety about the future of parenting.

  • Identity and Role Adjustments: Finding their place within the new family structure and balancing the expectations of being a partner, parent, and individual.

  • Communication and Coping Skills: Strengthening communication to better navigate shared stressors, while developing tools to manage any mental health challenges they may be facing.

  • Building Confidence as a Parent: Finding ways to bond with the child, while offering support to both their partner and themselves as they adjust to parenthood.

  • Increased Workload & Financial Pressures: Growing a family often brings new priorities and financial shifts. Non-birthing partners may experience feelings of resentment or envy over their partner’s ability to spend more time with the baby or work less.

  • Feeling Overlooked or Under-Supported: It’s common for support systems to focus on the birthing partner and baby, leaving non-birthing partners feeling isolated or unacknowledged for their own challenges during this time.

  • Strain on the Relationship: The pressures of parenthood can cause strain on relationships, whether through grief, resentment, or the overall stress of balancing new responsibilities. These changes can impact how partners feel toward one another.

  • Depression, Anxiety, & Anger: Research suggests that up to 10% of non-birthing partners experience some form of postpartum mood adjustment. While this is a normal experience, additional support can help reduce the intensity of these emotions.

Non-birthing partners benefit from a supportive space to explore these shifts and challenges. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain confidence in their evolving role, strengthening their connection with both their child and their partner as they navigate this transformative period together.
